Kinnikinnick Soft Bread

This week at the Pontiac Celiac Support Group we tried the new soft breads by the Canadian Company  Kinnikinnick foods. It was kind of scary because it looks, feels and tastes like real wheat bread. The size and shape of the slices were normal too. From my bad picture it looks like the whole grain bread is smaller than the white bread but it is not. Then sent me the bread 2 days after our last monthly meeting so it has been in the freezer for a month. I took it out right before the meeting and it was super soft right away with no warming! Everyone had nothing but good comments to make about the texture and taste.

I remember  in the 90's ordering food from Kinnikinnick. It was the best GF food out there and eventually it started to be available in stores. I used to love to eat a piece of their sunflower flax bread for toast every morning. I must admit I have brand loyalty to several companies that made GF food back in the day when it was not trendy! I have a vivid memory of moving across town and they sent my breads to my old address by mistake. They sat there for a few days while the new people were gone and of course spoiled by the time they gave it to me. I remember calling the company crying! They said don't cry, we'll send you another package today!!! Gluten-free food was like gold back then!

The last few years companies have been coming out with softer breads. Udi's is very tasty and popular but the tiny slices and large holes have turned people off. I was looking forward to the new Genius bread by Glutino. It looked nice but tasted like dust. Kinnikinnick has really figured it out. We haven't figured out where we can buy it here yet. On their website it is very reasonably priced at $4.99 and hamburger and hot dog buns for $4.59.

We also sampled some K-Toos Sandwich cookies and some chocolate chip cookies. The gang liked the the light crispy texture of both. The sandwich cookies were quite similar to Oreos but lighter. The chocolate chip cookies were proclaimed much better than Chips Ahoy and everyone liked the crispy yet chewy texture.

So thanks Kinnikinnick, we are in love here in Pontiac!
