GF Frugal Bagel Chips

I really love the GF Bagel Chips from Glutino to take for my lunch with my salad. What I don't like is that a small box with an even smaller bag inside costs $4 to $5. Recently I posted a recipe for making stovetop stuffing out of bread scraps and I always save the ends and broken pieces in a bag in the freezer. This time I slightly broke up the frozen pieces and put them on a large baking sheet. I then baked them in a low 300 degree oven. They were mostly drying out, not really browning. After about 45-60 minutes (or when they seem quites dry) I turned off the oven and just left them in there overnight.

The next day I put them in a glass jar because if you put any dried thing into plastic it will start getting some moisture. I tasted one---hmm---these taste like bagel chips!

So since I made these I have used them crushed as bread crumbs in a recipe, sautéed in olive oil for a crouton, ground up and used on chicken strips, dipped in hummus, etc etc etc! They are just a great thing to have on hand. You can also just pull a couple out of the jar, add a smidgen of olive oil and warm in the microwave for a second. Yum! If they are totally dried out I think they would keep for months in the jar and are a useful thing to have on hand. Gluten people would just not understand the convenience of this!

I think I will be conceited and award myself a prize for the most frugal recipe on my frugal blog! Next week watch for what I will do with bacon grease! (Just kidding; I'm a dietitian remember! )That was my German grandmothers recipes anyway!
